You may have noticed that this year, assignment books have not been coming home. Instead of assigned homework every day, my hope is that children will spend about 20 minutes every night engaged in reading (either independently or with an adult), and practice their math facts several times a week. Please see the "math" page of the blog for our first Math Fact Fluency Focus! :)
Soon, I would like to begin using the assignment books as a way for children to communicate their learning from school to home. Sort of like a guide to my minilessons, but in simpler form. We're not there yet, as we're still solidifying routines, but hopefully by second quarter we will be able to spend fifteen minutes a day working on this.
You should also expect to begin receiving "Friday Folders" next week. These will contain examples of your child's work, with feedback. Not everything will come home in these folders... for example, we keep our science and writing work here at school.
Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
Happy Thursday!!
Thank you... we will begin to practice math facts this week. Christa F.
