Joy in Second Grade

It was a mid-morning moment last week.  We were right in the middle of Writing Workshop. Outside, the sun filtered through the fire-colored leaves, fluttering in a cold breeze.  Inside, the heat had just clicked on and the air was cozy and warm.  Gentle music was playing, and the room was softly buzzing with activity... children whispering their stories to themselves, across fingers first,  and then with pencils across pages.  Contentment.  Excitement.  Joy.

I felt these three things again today during Science.  Our pupae are hatching... both our Painted Ladies and our Mealworms.  Ask your children to tell you about what they are in their adult forms. As I watched partners exploring and observing together, I was amazed at how well curiosity translates to joy.

This is how we build a life-long love of learning.

With joy.

Of note:  I've started to enter some content specific information on the different pages of the blog. Please check back regularly, and feel free to ask questions or comment!  :)
